On the first viewing it’s not immediately apparent, but watch how the man is walking in the background then abruptly appears out of the water. In the photos above you can see that he is digitally wiped to make that happen. Steven Klein is a great director. He has a depth of storytelling in what at first appearance is a simple scene. The vulnerability of the women is expressed by the area of the swimsuit exposed to the sun and the removal of the swimsuit top. Yet when he emerges from the pool, she isn’t surprised. There’s a story there…     Watch it several times and it works on the viewer to be interested in what’s really going on.
