David Devlin has worked with some of the most respected filmmakers and musicians of our time.
His career began working as an assistant to Jim Henson for two years until Henson's tragic death in 1990.
His first film as Lighting Director was with photographer and director Matt Mahurin on Mugshot (Robert Knepper, Michael K. Williams, 1993) after collaborating with Mahurin on music videos including Bush, Soundgarden, INXS, Ray Charles, and Ozzy Osbourne. His association with fashion photographers started at this time on advertising campaigns and magazine editorials.
Over the past twenty-five years, the photographers David has worked with include Steven Klein, Peter Lindbergh, Inez & Vinoodh, Annie Leibovitz, Steven Meisel, Craig McDean, and Mark Seliger.
Working between New York and California, he formed a long lasting work relationship with two time Academy award winner Janusz Kaminski that lead to Cameron Crowe's 'Jerry Maguire', and subsequently eleven Steven Spielberg films.
As his relationship with Kaminski and Spielberg developed, he took on the additional task of 2nd unit director of photography on seven films.
After completing 'Lincoln' (2012), he moved to the full time role of cinematographer on features, commercials, and music videos, working with directors David Fincher, Mark Pellington, Anthony Mandler, Steven Klein, Henry-Alex Rubin, Bill Paxton, Jared Leto, Inez and Vinoodh among others.
Devlin is best known for his feature film work on Saving Private Ryan (1998), Lincoln (2012), Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull (2008), Monster (2021), and Semper Fi (2019).
Commercials include Google, Apple, Samsung, Nike, AT&T, Adidas, Tom Ford, Calvin Klein, Dolce and Gabbana, GMC, Jaguar, and Ford.
